Pongola Game Reserve Fishing Report

Temp (River):
Minimum:23 C Maximum:28 C

Water Clarity:
Murky in places

Water Level:

46 mm

Fishing Area:
River mouth, Elephant Bay in 3- 4m of water and towards the mountain near the trees in the water, but be careful of tree stumps and old structures that are protruding, or just below the water surface.

Average Size:
Tiger Fish caught ranged from 1kg 2.3kg but some good fish were caught, one of which weighed in at 3.5kg. The big Tigers are shy but they are definitely around. Lots of smaller Tigers taking the bait.

Other Conditions:
Due to rains received up in the catchment area of the Dam, the river is flowing stronger causing the Dam level to rise slightly. Fishing is definitely improving again. With the water being a bit murky due to the increased river inflow sardine was the best bait for the month.

Total Tiger Fish:
An Average of 230 Tiger Fish were caught this month off the Pongola Game Reserve boats, all of these on sardines.

Plenty of Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish, also on sardine.

Bait of the Month:
Lure were not so successful during February, as all Tigers were caught on sardine, which was definitely the flavour of the month.
